This video contains all my varied learnings from starting up a recycling flip-flop stand in a beach town.
My story starts with me needing a pair of inside shoes, and thinking to myself that an odd recycled pair from the beach would be fine, as it’s only for around the house. Then, I went deeper after experiencing wearing the shoes over the next week at home, and then, yes, in public!
The psychological and sociological learnings from this experience were huge. I discuss in this video:
- How we judge people by the shoes we wear (why do we do that?).
- Obsession with perfection in our lives, homes, cars.
- Reflection points on functionality of things, and usefulness of objects.
- Throw away society.
- Concept of double recycling.
- Men more open than women… and why this is the case and my call to action for all women.
- Getting involved in your community… so many ways to beat loneliness and connect!
- Encouraging you to reflect, take this idea to your community, sports centre, charity shop, school.
- ‘Get your Bowies on!’
Enjoy the following video, and I would love to hear your thoughts on these ideas, concepts and potentially taking this into your community.
